The old myth of the destruction of the library by religious fanatics was something of the inventive legacy of Gibbon, whom I enjoy, but find difficult to conflate with history in the sense you probably meant this to be read. The problem with recent trend is atheism isn't that they might not be right (who knows?) but that they are really egregiously sloppy thinkers - Sagan amongst the least qualified that comes to mind. Where, oh, where is our Zarathustra? Rather, I'll settle for someone simply honest.<br /><br />In any case, reverting to the original point, David Hart's corrective is more or less available for free via google books (Night of Reason chapter in Atheist Delusions).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
